Does the thought of shopping for you wedding dress fill you full of dread, when everybody around you is telling you “it’s an amazing experience that you should be looking forward to” Well let me tell you, you are not alone.
As the owner of a Bridal boutique, I see many women every day that come into the boutique as white as a sheet with a look of terrified dread on their faces, while they’re entourage are having their best day.
When I ask if they are ok? 9 times out of ten the reply is “I didn’t sleep last night cause I’m SO nervous”. That’s because they have spent all night predicting that they will be judged, or body shamed.
I get why a bride would feel like this, but it makes me sad to think that they have put so much pressure on themselves to take away the excitement of what should be an enjoyable experience.
Let me tell you that all the things you think other people are focusing on aren’t there. The people you have with you love you, and want the best for you, and the boutique staff want you to find the dress that makes you feel like the best version of yourself as you can be, that’s why they do their job.
Yes, everyone wants a beautiful dress, that’s natural, but the most important thing to be comfortable in on your wedding day is your own skin. You will never look more beautiful than if you are happy and confident.
As a woman I understand that we put so much enfaces on the way we look and how we are perceived by others, but also as a 50-year-old, plus sized woman I have come to realise that the only person it is important to please is yourself.
